At FairlySplit, we take your privacy seriously. This policy explains how we handle your information and data when you use our website and application.

1. Data Collection & Storage

FairlySplit is a client-side, local-first application. This means all data you enter (bill names, participant names, expenses, PromptPay details, and payment statuses) is stored locally in your browser's local storage (localStorage). We do not transmit this data to any external servers under our control.

Optional Google Drive Backup

If you choose to enable the optional Google Drive Backup feature, the application will save a copy of your local data to your own personal Google Drive account. Specifically:

• Backup Data: The backup includes active bills, participant lists, PromptPay numbers, application configuration, and transaction history.
• Storage Location: This data is saved in a dedicated file named fairlysplit-backup.json inside a folder named FairlySplit in your personal Google Drive.
• Direct Communication: All backup actions are performed directly between your browser and Google's API endpoints using secure HTTPS. We do not operate any intermediary servers or databases, meaning your credentials, tokens, and financial/splitting data never pass through or get saved on any third-party infrastructure.

2. Google Drive Permissions & API Scopes

When you connect your Google Drive, FairlySplit requests authorization strictly for the following permission scope:

• https://www.googleapis.com/auth/drive.file (Restricted Access)

This is a highly secure, granular permission. It grants FairlySplit access only to the files and folders created or opened by this specific application. FairlySplit cannot see, read, edit, or delete any other files, folders, photos, or documents in your Google Drive.

You can disconnect Google Drive and revoke this access at any time through the app settings or via your Google Account's security settings. Disconnecting the feature instantly invalidates and revokes the OAuth token client-side.

3. Cookies and Tracking

We use essential cookies and browser storage technologies to operate the app. Specifically:

• Local Storage: Used to save your current bill progress, application preferences, and local backup configuration/tokens so you don't lose data when you refresh the page or close your browser.
• Google AdSense: We use Google AdSense to display advertisements. Google uses cookies to serve ads based on your previous visits to our website or other websites. You can opt out of personalized advertising by visiting the Google Ads Settings.

4. Third-Party Services

We use the following third-party integrations:

• Google Identity Services & Google Drive API: For user authentication and direct file synchronization of backups.
• Google AdSense: For monetization and displaying contextual ads.
• CDN Services (Cloudflare/cdnjs): To load essential frontend libraries (such as html2canvas and qrcode.js) safely and quickly.

5. Children's Privacy

Our service does not address anyone under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personally identifiable information from children under 13.

6. Changes to This Policy

We may update our Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new Privacy Policy on this page and updating the "Last Updated" date.
